A flood-damaged Tyson Foods Inc. plant has reopened in Wisconsin but the meat maker is cutting more than 200 jobs there due to damaged equipment.

The plant in Jefferson reopened last week after being closed due to severe flooding in the southeastern Wisconsin region since the middle of June.

The plant, which makes pepperoni and salami, had 480 employees, so the cuts are just under half its work force. Positions cut include in slicing, sausage manufacturing and stuffing, shipping, sanitation and warehouse.

The Springdale, Ark.-based company decided to make the cuts because some of the equipment at the plant was damaged and it wasn’t feasible to put in new equipment, said Mark Odom, vice president of operations for Tyson Prepared Foods, said in a statement Monday.

Shares of Tyson rose 61 cents, or 3.6 percent, to $17.50 in late morning trading Tuesday.
