First Arab and Muslim To Win Miss USA Pageant
The first Muslim-American and Arab-American to win the Miss USA pageant is Rima Fakih, a 24-year old Lebanese immigrant whose family first settled in New York (where she attended a Catholic school. Nice. She's probably extra naught now to make up for all those years of repressive Nuns moralizing) and then later in Dearborn, Michigan - the largest Arab town outside of the Middle East.

Fakih, of course, represented Michigan in the contest and apparently won over billionaire developer Donald Trump (who owns the pageant in a co-operative with broadcaster NBC) with her charm:
"She's a great girl," Trump stated after her victory.
And Fakih apparently could read his mind saying that she knew she was going to win the crown after glancing at Trump right before the host announced the winner:
"That's the same look that he gives them when he says, 'you're hired'," she told reporters.
In a moment that was replayed during the broadcast, Fakih nearly fell while finishing her walk in her gown because of the length of its train. But she made it without a spill and went on to win.
"I did it here, I better not do it at Miss Universe," she said.
A caveat: Pageant officials said historical pageant records were not detailed enough to show whether Fakih was the first Arab American, Muslim or immigrant to win the Miss USA title.
Why this important? It really is not. It's all just silly. But it is important for Americans to see Muslims and Arabs in the country who are as American as everyone else.
