A Columbia University professor who was fired in June after allegations of plagiarism has appealed her termination.

Teachers College professor Madonna G. Constantine was sanctioned in February after administrators concluded she used others’ work without attribution in papers published in academic journals. Last October, Constantine drew widespread attention when a noose was discovered hanging from her office door.

Constantine says she was fired because she spoke out after the noose incident. She calls the plagiarism allegations baseless.

Constantine’s lawyer said Tuesday that she remains employed and suspended with pay during her appeal.

A university spokesman says a hearing for Constantine will be held before a faculty committee.
