Filipino MIgrant Workers Forced To Convert From Christianity To Islam
I guess it's okay for Muslims to proselytize and force or coerce others to convert to Islam, but it's not okay for Christians to do the same thing. Frankly I find proselytizing in any religion offensive, and one should never, ever force someone to believe as you do. But if one religion finds nothing wrong with the practice within their own religion, they certainly should not condemn another for doing the same thing.

But Muslim forced conversions, within the extremist, conservative movement, are happening everywhere. And in countries like Saudi Arabia many non-Muslim migrant workers are being forced to convert or lose their jobs. This is not the way to win the hearts and minds of people, through coercion, but apparently it happens there. Filipino workers who are being lured to Saudi Arabia with the promises of jobs find it difficult to refuse, since they need the jobs desperately. 10 million Filipinos have left the island in search of work, because of the extremely high unemployment rate, there are approximately 200,ooo in Saudi Arabia alone. Though many are badly treated domestic workers, some get work as nurses. One nurse who has been in the Kingdom for ten years had this to say:
“In my tens in Saudi Arabia, I have witnessed several Catholic or Christian Filipino migrants accept Islam under duress,” said Joselyn Cabrera, a Filipino Catholic nurse working at Riyadh hospital.“After some months, employers give you an ultimatum, telling you to become Muslim to keep your job,” she said. “For us, it is hard to make such a choice, but if we don’t, we become the victims of abuse.”
In her years in the kingdom, she said she saw at least 50 forced conversions at work.
“Even I have been subjected to pressures from my Muslim co-workers, but I have always refused saying that I’d rather remain Catholic. Until now, nothing has happened to me, yet.”
No-one should be forced to convert to any religion to keep a job. I realize that people need jobs, but there have to be better choices than countries that make it well-nigh impossible to live your life in peace, without being harrassed and forced to do something against your will.
