Francisco Javier Fernandez set a world record in the 10,000-meter race walk Sunday, with a time of 37 minutes, 53.09 seconds at the Spanish nationals.

Fernandez beat the record set by Italy’s Ivano Brugnetti at the 2004 Olympics in Athens by 5 seconds.
