Female Babies Growing Breasts After Being Fed Milk Containing Hormones
I was just watching on the news tonight that young girls in the U.S. are reaching puberty at an alarmingly early age. Some as early as 7 or 8-years-old. Reaching puberty at such an early age brings along with it many hazards including early sexual activity and many potential health problems. Although the article claims that doctors have no clue what is causing the rise in premature puberty, it is thought that childhood obesity could be a factor. I was surprised there was no mention of the hormones that they pump into foods, including rBGh (bovine growth hormone) they feed to cows to produce more milk. But what's happening in China is ten times worse.

Female babies in China have grown breasts after they were given milk laced with hormones. The horrifying scenes have caused uproar among parents in central China, who fear that the milk powder they used had led to the premature developments.
The official China Daily newspaper reported today that medical tests indicated that the level of hormones in three 'test case' girls, ranging in age from four months to 15 months, exceeded those found in the average adult woman.
All the babies who showed symptoms of the phenomenon were fed the same baby formula.

'The amount of hormones in the babies definitely means there's a problem,' said Mr Yang Qin, chief physician in the child care department at the Hubei Maternity and Children's Hospital.
He urged parents to stop using the formula and insisted that the milk powder be subjected to chemical analysis.
As is very common in China, the doctor's recommendations have hit a brick wall. Chinese authorities are often very slow in addressing major issues that could reflect badly on the leadership, so they often go into denial, or drag their feet when it comes to investigating the various problems they encounter.
Local food safety authorities have refused one mother's request to investigate the formula, made by the Synutra company, claiming they do not conduct tests when requested by consumers.
Not only have they done nothing to address the issue, apparently the baby formula rather than being immediately pulled from the market is still being sold in stores so that more babies can grow breasts. In one region of China they are even selling it for a discount.
The company itself, obviously, has denied any wrongdoing. I'm sure they are well aware what can happen to them if they were to be found guilty.
Synutra insisted that its products were safe, claiming that 'no man-made hormones or any illegal substances were added during the production of the milk powder'.
There are some who have another possible theory, if indeed the companies claims are true.
As experts tried to pin down the source of the hormones that resulted in babies growing breasts, a dairy association said the hormones could have entered the food chain when farmers reared the cattle.'Since a regulation forbidding the use of hormones to cultivate livestock has yet to be drawn up in China, it would be lying to say nobody uses it,' said Mr Wang Dingmian, the former chairman of the dairy association in the southern province of Guangdong.
Who's to know who or what is at fault, and whether the formula manufacturers were cognizant of the fact their milk had hormones, or not. It wouldn't be surprising. After all, they wouldn't be the first company to do something like that. 300,000 children got sick and more than six infants died after drinking melanine tainted milk.
Two years ago Chinese dairy products were recalled worldwide after it was revealed that melamine, used to make plastics, was widely and illegally added to the products to give the appearance of higher protein.
One would think that after all the problems the Chinese have been having with defective or tainted goods, that they would institute higher quality control standards, but one can only hope they do, before any more mishaps occur. I can only imagine how horrifying it would be to find your infant child had grown breasts.
As for the problem in this country, and any other country that might use hormones in their foods, this practice has to stop before we start creating major health problems.
