Allyson Felix ran inside 11 seconds Friday for the first time to become the season’s fastest woman over 100 meters at the Doha Super Grand Prix.

Felix made the difference over the final 40 meters, dipping across the line in 10.93 seconds to comfortably beat Sherone Simpson of Jamaica by 0.16.

Jamaica’s Kerron Stewart held the previous fastest time this year with 10.96.

Felix also will run a 400 later Friday in balmy conditions on the Persian Gulf. She will compete in the 100 and 200 at the U.S. Olympic trials, starting June 27 in Oregon, and is expected to be part of the two U.S. relay teams in Beijing, too.

There was more good news for the U.S. team.

David Oliver made sure he could not be counted out of the 110 hurdles in Beijing, winning in 12.95 seconds _ just .07 off the world record of China’s Liu Xiang. Oliver’s previous personal best was just 13.08. Oliver had ideal wind conditions to boost his time and make him the eighth best performer of all time.

“I want to be in that mix,” Oliver said. “I got to stay sharp now. I am ready to go the trials now, so I just got to hold it for a little bit longer.”

He was so confident he even checked the world’s top 10 on the eve of the race to make sure he could get among them.

Fellow American Joel Brown was second in 13.38, and Andy Turner clocked 13.41.

The men’s 100 meters was less spectacular, with Norway’s Jaysuma Saidy Ndure winning in 10.01 second, edging Darrell Brown of Trinidad and Tobago by .01 seconds. Jamaica’s Michael Frater was third in 10.08.

World indoor champion Lolo Jones had a less than perfect start to her international season, stumbling along the way to finish second in the 100 hurdles behind Jamaica’s Brigitte Foster-Hylton, who set a meet record of 12.56 to edge Jones by .09.

Jeremy Wariner is running the 200 meters later Friday.

Wariner is Olympic and multiple world champion in the 400, yet wants to sharpen his finishing speed ahead of the Beijing Games. He is looking to make a point by beating his personal best in the 200 of 20.19 seconds.
