Fayyad = “Collaborator”?
It’s just like Hamas to demand to try the one Palestinian actually doing something about creating an economically viable Palestinian state. If nothing else, it proves where Hamas’ ambitions lie…

Report: Hamas wants to try Fayyad over Haaretz interview
By Haaretz Service

Hamas on Saturday called for Palestinian Authority President Salam Fayyad to be put on trial for comments he made in an interview with Haaretz published one day earlier, Army Radio reported.
Fayyad said that he expects a Palestinian state to be established in 2011 and that Palestinian refugees would be absorbed by the new state.
Hamas officials accuse Fayyad of giving up the right of return within the 1948 borders for Palestinian refugees.
“Fayyad is a person without legitimacy, who has stolen control in the West Bank and whose hands are contaminated with the suffering of thousands of martyrs in the West Bank,” the officials said.
In the interview, Fayyad said the Palestinians want an independent and sovereign state, emphasizing they are “not looking for a state of leftovers - a Mickey Mouse state.”
He also welcomed the Quartet's announcement of two weeks ago in Moscow, which supports the PA’s August 2009 plan to establish a state within 24 months.

Salam Fayyad is right—unless and until a Palestinian state can support itself and not become a perennial welfare state, kept afloat solely by international aid, it can never be more than a “Mickey Mouse state”.
Why does Hamas consider him “a person without legitimacy”? Only because he is a realist rather than a fanatic. Hamas’ all or nothing policy could very well result in the result they don’t want—nothing. If they insist on a Palestine from “the [Jordan] river to the [Mediterranean] sea, as they have done for the past 22 years, then they’re going to be disappointed—and their “disappointment” can only lead to further violence.
It’s all laid out in the Hamas Covenant, for those who want to read it. Nothing less than a Shari’a Islamic state from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean where minorities are second-class dhimma with curtailed civil rights will satisfy Hamas.
