Farah Khan is all for girl power!
Our Bollywood seems smeared only with women and women issues. Movies like 'Kya Kehna', 'Salaam Namaste' (based on unwed motherhood and marriage), 'Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain' (based on a rape victim), 'Mehndi' (based on dowry), 'Lajja' (based on female infanticide, rape, marriage violence), 'Chingaari', 'Chameli' (based on prostitution), etc. and all

such endless movies having a feminist approach have been quite successful in raising and attracting the world towards the inhuman plight the women face.
But, one would be really shocked to learn the hard-core realities that still provide a dark picture for women. We were forced to ponder on the fact that whether these issues that our Bollywood industry highlights are really for women empowerment or mere business or money making strategies!
However, this recent incident questioned the gender outlook of the industry. Director-choreographer Farah Khan wanted a make-up artist called Namrata to work on the characters of 'Om Shanti Om', but the head of the make-up artist's union raised an objection because she was a woman. The union has a rule against allowing female make-up artists to work in the industry.
During 'Dil Chahta Hai' too, there were so many times when the female make up artists had to be hidden whenever union members barged in to create a ruckus. Make-up artists and even production houses are afraid of the union members who threaten to create complications in the shoot if a female make-up artist is hired.
An assistant director says:
Rules are made to safeguard the interests of the older members. They are aggressive, ancient and male-dominated in their approach.

But Farah Khan, being a woman, won't let this happen. She's all for the constitution not to discriminate anyone based on their gender. Farah says:
A woman cannot be a sperm donor, but besides that, she can be everything. The next president of India could be a female, we had a woman prime minister but this is the state of women still. This rule seems 200 years old, and I am not going to let my film suffer.
This is a very disappointing disclosure that would surprise as well as make our readers feel disheartened. But, with people like Farah around, we can still hope for some light amongst the mist.
