Fannie Mae, down $1.01 at $8.94

The mortgage financier swung to a second-quarter loss of $2.3 billion, or $2.54 a share, more than triple what Wall Street expected.

MBIA Inc., up 55 cents at $8.83

The bond insurer reported that its second-quarter earnings rose because of unrealized gains on credit derivatives.

McDonald’s Corp., up $4.04 at $65.90

The fast-food firm said strong demand for breakfast items helped lift global same-store sales 8 percent in July.

Beazer Homes USA Inc., up 47 cents at $6.40

The home builder reported that lower expenses helped narrow its fiscal third-quarter loss, even as revenue fell.

Rackspace Hosting Inc., down $1.65 at $10.85

The computer hosting firm became the latest example of a weak market for initial public offerings, opening 20 percent below its offering price.

UBS AG, up 73 cents at $21.13

The Swiss bank said it would repurchase $19.4 billion in auction-rate securities from individual investors.

Edison International, up 40 cents at $46.85

The utility posted second-quarter earnings of $262 million, or 79 cents a share, as revenue rose, topping Wall Street forecasts.

UAL Corp., up 96 cents at $10.57

The parent of United Airlines traded higher on above-average volume as airline stocks were lifted by falling oil prices.
