Expert warns of possible 8.0 Earthquake in Mexico
After the earthquake of 8.8 degrees which hit Chile, Raúl Valenzuela Wong, a researcher at the Department of Seismology, Institute of Geophysics of the Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), warns that there is great probability that a similar earthquake hits Mexico in the near future.

The northeastern region of Guerrero is a seismic zone, but since 1911 the tectonic plates have not moved. According to Valenzuela Wong since it has been such a long time since the last earthquake in the Guerrero Gap area the tremor could be equal to or greater than a 8.0 on the Richter scale.
Valenzuela Wong stressed that due to the short distance between Mexico City and that area, an earthquake of any scale would significantly affect the capital.
The geophysicist said in a statement that the region of Guerrero and Michoacan, are where most earthquakes occur in the country, due to its proximity to the tectonic plates.
