A judge in Pennsylvania has sentenced the former coroner of Lancaster County to one year on probation and fined him $500 for giving newspaper reporters the password to a restricted 911 Web site.
Judge Dennis Reinaker imposed the sentence Tuesday on Gary Kirchner (KIRK’-ner), who pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor obstruction counts.
The charges against the 74-year-old Kirchner alleged that he gave the password to reporters for the Lancaster Intelligencer Journal newspaper. He left the elected office at the end of last year when his term was up.
A reporter testified last year that the coroner, trying to keep reporters from calling him, gave her the password to the confidential government site.
