Every man has his price!

LIFESTYLE. .

They say that there’s nothing that money can’t buy you in our country. If you have money, you can be the kingmaker! If not, you have to endure so much pain and humiliation in this excessively money obsessed society that can only respect people who have money and those who have a so called social status that comes along with their money.

It makes me wonder how, in a country like ours, which practices democracy can get this worse when it comes to transparency in governance. It feels so sickening when people talk about our country as the country of scams. I don’t blame them for speaking that way. Cos that’s the way of life here. That’s how we have portrayed our country! Which other country has ever been in so much news for corruption? Which other country is stricken by countless number of scams? None that I can think of.

Why is this happening? Why in India? Democracy doesn’t suit this country? Or people’s attitude towards governance is flawed? What I feel as the most prominent problem is the attitude of people, especially the youth towards politics! Many (which include me!) think of politics as a dirty game and we leave it to be played by some dumb nut heads! And they make a mockery of what we call a government! Even if we are not politically active, we should at least be politically engaged. Cos it’s up to us to build an image for our country. Its how we behave that can do it for us.

Giving power to a guy who is so in love with money invariably acts as a platform for corruption. And people have reached such a stage that some have actually fallen in love with it! That’s because it gives them an easy way out! An easy way of getting things done! People who have money don’t seem to bother to pay up n get things done!

And it’s hard to believe that a certain percentage of our population make a living as the bribe brokers! I just want to quote my friend’s experience here. He wanted to get his driving license done and went to the regional transport office on his own! He was made to run around for almost a week to get his test drive done. And for no reason, he was failed by the inspector. The very next day he went there through a broker! And to his surprise, he was granted a license without a test drive! All he had to do was to pay up! He had to pay a thousand bucks for a job that the government should have actually done at around a two hundred bucks.

Can I blame my friend here for bribing? No! For the reason that I also got my license done the very same way! And so have all my friends! There is no way on earth you can get it done without shelling out cash! And we can’t be too idealistic and keep trying in the usual way to get something done! At some point or the other, you give up and adapt to the situation! That’s what our country and our government has taught us!! Adaptability! And we get annoyed when we go to a country where the system’s clean and you have to go through the standard procedures for everything!

“Corruption is a necessary evil!” is what people are thinking at the moment! At least it’s necessary for those who have money! Who actually cares about the ones who don’t?! It’s a common ordeal for them to suffer! And they accept it as their fate and they have lost interest even to complain, let alone trying to change things! It has become sort of a weakness of this class of people which the powerful are exploiting and are making merry!

Power corrupts the few, while weakness corrupts the many. Hatred, malice, rudeness, intolerance, and suspicion are the faults of weakness. The resentment of the weak does not spring from any injustice done to them but from their sense of inadequacy and impotence. We cannot win the weak by sharing our wealth with them. They feel our generosity as oppression.

The above statement is so damn true! But what can we do about it?! Nothing that we can think of! We just have learned to live with it! Cos everything has a price and we have accepted it! Every man has a price in our system, or so it seems! Affordability of the price tags is all it takes to get things done! God save this country and people!

What can I do to dive out corruption?! All I can think of is to drive myself out of this country! Do I have any other option here?! Enlighten me!
