Eid Al-Adha Special From Jordan (1)
I thought I’d write down my thoughts for Adha Eid, to brief you all on how Jordanian citizens are celebrating it, or not celebrating it. But before briefing you up, it would be nice to explain what Eid Al-Adha is:
Well, AL Adha is the Eid that the Muslim world celebrates
“on the 10th day of the month of Dhul Hijja (ذو الحجة) of the lunar Islamic calendar. The festivities last for three days or more depending on the country. Eid al-Adha occurs the day after the pilgrims conducting Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia by Muslims worldwide, descend from Mount Arafat. It happens to be approximately 70 days after the end of the month of Ramadan.”-Wikipedia

During this Eid, Muslims give away meat to the poor, from where the name Eid Al Adha, Arabic for “The Festival of Sacrifice”, came.
So, today is the first day of Eid Al Adha… And here’s the first post on Eid-Special observations from Jordan:
+ There is a silly habit that Jordanians are into during all special occasions that deserve and do not deserve congratulating each other for; and that is forwarding prewritten text messages to everyone they know, which makes it lacking in affection and personality. I mean, why can’t you just write a text yourself and send it only to people you care about? It won’t be as poetic as the prewritten one that you forward, but people would appreciate the fact that they received something that was written by YOU, especially for THEM…
Anyways, in spite of what I wrote just now, today I received one special forwarded text message that I liked a lot. Translation of the message goes like this:
Before all of those Eid kisses, and before the sneezing starts, and dying of swine flu breaks: I congratulate you of Eid my dearest companion.
OK, you can say that I have double standards, I don't care... That WAS funny :P
And who said Jordanians have no sense of Humor?!!?
To Be Continued…
