Eid Al-Adha Special From Jordan (2)
I believe that yesterday I was pretty successful in proving that Jordanians DO have some degree of humor (despite the grumpy faces they are best known for :) ). And here I am today with a new trial of drawing another picture for you about Eid in Jordan.
When I was a young girl, I used to enjoy Eid, and everything about Eid, the atmosphere, the activities, and the socialization… But I guess that’s why kids are not supposed to make major decisions independently (Because they do not know that much). You see, the socialization part is what astonishes me as I grow up. It actually makes me wonder if it is just me, or everyone around me is really weird!

It is nice to see your beloved ones on these special occasions, but when it turns into an obligation that you HAVE to do, rather than something you LOVE to do, then that doesn’t bring a very pleasant feeling!!! It really surprises me when people meet to congratulate each other on Eid, in two different places and two separate occasions, on THE SAME DAY!!! Yep, it could happen in Jordan… explanation? There you go:
Lets say X is Y’s cousin… X goes and visits Y, eats Eid sweets, drinks Arabic coffee, gossips, and heads back home… in a time period of three hours, Y visits X, eats Eid sweets, drinks Arabic coffee, gossips, and heads back home… Why do people do this? The answer is pretty obvious for someone who belongs to, let’s call it, a-not-so-young-generation… and the answer is: When someone visits you in Eid, it is only acceptable that you visit them back, and considering the huge amount of people that you HAVE to visit (you can’t forget any of your cousins!!), certain allowances were socially made to make your life easier; those being: you can disregard the timing of the visits.
Now the sad funny thing is when X meets Y on the same day for the third time at a mutual friend’s house…
Yes, it could happen it Jordan :)
To be continued
