Earthquake affected Haitians arrive in Mexico for New Beginning
In a joint statement, the National Institute of Migration , the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of the Navy reported that after having sailed for more than five Caribbean days after leaving Port au Prince, 250 Haitians affected by the January 12 earthquake, arrived with their families in Veracruz.

In all, Mexico has received 324 Haitians with FM3 humanitarian status visas, which allows them to work, study , travel within and outside of national territory, as well as access to public social services that are provided in the country for a year.

After the earthquake, the INM relaxed the requirements for admission and regulation of Haitians already living in Mexico without documents, and suspended all deportation procedures for all 'undocumented' islanders who were being held in immigration stations, in addition to automatically initiating regularization procedures that had previously been suspended or denied to Haitian applicants.
The agencies reported that family reunification is carried out by the Haitian INM in coordination with the SRE , the Air Force, Navy of Mexico and the Mexican Commission for Aid to Refugees .
