Dubai's nasty rules for Kenyans who wish to visit the country

POLITICS. .

I thought Kenyans presence in Dubai is a blessing to the country, they provide cheap affordable labour. But i think my feeling was all wrong. All those planning to travel or go work in Dubai if you do not have a Bachelor's degree forget it. The new rules dictate that any Kenyan wishing to travel to Dubai whether connecting to any other middle East country should be a degree holder, this sounds like a serious punch below the belt, there are hundred of business men and women who travel to Dubai on weekly basis. The rules were effected last Monday, just four days after the UAE Foreign Affairs Minister Sheikh Abdullah Al Nahyan met both President Kibaki and his Kenyan counterpart Moses Wetang’ula in Nairobi.

This means that the 369 Kenyans in Iraq, the 36 in Afghanistan and the 36,000 others who live and work in Dubai, will not dare leave unless they have visa approval. That is besides the thousands of traders who make daily trips to the international trade hub in the middle East. The reason for the new rules is still unknown but a recent deportation of UAE nationals touring the country could have been the trigger.
