Every day that this sweeping revolution continues, the stakes go higher for the Arab League and the West.
Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi’s theatrics placed the Arab League and the West in a peculiar mess.
The Arab League came out in support of a UN imposed No Fly Zone. Nobody placed a gun to their heads. They were scared that Col. Gaddafi would massacre his own people. The UN granted their request.
And then the bombing started.
And the Arab League raised a white flag. No. No. That wasn’t what we had in mind.
Weren’t they watching CNN? Did they follow the debate within the United States? Defense Secretary Gates said it several times that a No Fly Zone is, for all practical purpose, a declaration of war. He said that the first thing that must be done in such a situation is to take out the air defense of the targeted country.
America did the same in Serbia and Iraq. So why was the Arab League surprised? Was the League expecting Gaddafi to surrender as soon as the No Fly Zone was announced?
Col. Qaddafi’s government has exceeded its expiration date. Everyone should let it die. As violent as it started, so shall it die.
