Do Men Feel Threatened By Intelligent, Working Women?

I was just asked the following question by an I.B. user:

"Why on earth would all women want to be C-130 transport plane pilots? -or any similar such things like train drivers or truck drivers.Ok sorry why should even most women try to be any such thing? Do you honestly feel most women would like to give up the job of being a good mother to her children and the custodian of a happy family to any other job? Please give me some good reasons for why-if you disagree."

As astonished and shocked as I was that the question was even asked, in this day and age, it got me wondering. Is it mostly Muslim men who feel this way? Is it mostly non-western men who feel this way? Or do most men feel the same way? Is it religious or cultural or both?

I actually have to give him credit for even daring to ask such a chauvinistic question, and although I already answered the above, I thought I would put this out to you, both men and women of I.B., to find out what you might have to say regarding the issue.

First of all, if GOD had NOT wanted women to be productive citizens of the world HE would have made women rabbits or some other animal, just for procreative purposes. But no, we received brains, just like men, and most of us like to use our brains.

Why not a pilot, or truck driver, or a doctor, lawyer or politician? If someone wants to be a mother and homemaker, more power to them, but to presume that most women would give up a job to stay at home is downright offensive to an enlightened woman. This world would be a mess if that were the case. Civilization would also still be in the stone-age if all that women aspired to was to be a birthing machine. Look at what "working" women have contributed to the world. There have been some amazing female politicians in the world: Benazir Bhutto, Indira Ghandi, Margaret Thatcher. And women have contributed to the scientific world. Did you know that Mary Anderson invented the windshield wiper for cars? Yes, the cars YOU men drive, that women in Saudi Arabia are not allowed to drive. Marie Curie discovered radium? Here is a list of female Nobel Prize winners. There are a plethora of lists on the Internet of the great accomplishments women have made over the centuries.

GOD gave us brains to use, not to just remain at home, barefoot and pregnant, to serve the needs of a husband and family. You should be thankful that not all women want to stay at home.
