Different Scenarios, One President (1)
News headlines from the angry country of Yemen are talking about the readiness of Ali Abdullah Saleh to step down and hand power within 60 days, other sources on the other hand, say that he is still not ready, and will hand power by the end of the year.
So we are looking at anything between 60 days or 9 months ( 9 months is 247 days) before Yemen is a free country again; Ali Abdullah Saleh free, after 33-years of having the same president ruling the country. So why does the man need more time?
I have different thoughts on the subject here;
1) He will do some political reform and fix the country, make it a better place than anything Yemenis have ever dreamed of. Yes, in these 60 to 247 days, Saleh might do what he was not able to accomplish within his 33-years of being king… euh, I mean president.
2) It might be a matter of dignity; the guy does not leave when people tell him to leave, he leaves upon his own set dates, yes, dignity people, dignity… This is the same dignity he must be using when he stays in power knowing that millions of people are asking him to leave them alone…
3) He could very much be teaching his people the meaning of persistence; this is also another possibility. The man has been a mentor to his people over around 33 years, now even his departure has to carry some kind of wisdom… Things in life do not come easy, you have to work hard and persist, choose your fights properly and live your dreams till the end, and... (insert a phrase by your favorite motivational speaker here)…
4)He might need the time to take his money out of the country and plan for a post-retirement vacation in a place where he is not to be found and judged for his "crimes" against his people during those 33 years.
5) I cannot think of anything else at the moment, but this doesn’t mean that this post is over, I might come back with other ideas if any cross my mind… And so I shall continue my journey of hunting-the-secrets-of-presidential-glue-phenomena.
