Democrats win US House, Senate too up for grab
After seizing 24 seats, Democrats have won the House of Representatives and are waiting for two undecided races to grab the Senate in the US mid-term elections. The Democrats won comfortably by moving beyond the benchmark of 15 seats needed to control the 435-member House. With results still pouring in, the party, coming back with a bang after 12 years, is confident of taking control of around 35 seats overall. According to CNN predictions, Democrats will grab between 230 and 234 House seats and Republicans will end with 201 and 205 seats.

Democrats have also won 4 Senate seats in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Missouri and Rhode Island, however, final result with respect to the 100-member Senate hangs on.
Nancy Pelosi, the new Democratic Speaker of the House, said: 'Tonight is a great victory for the American people. Today the American people voted for change, and they voted for Democrats to take our country in a new direction.'
Democrats are on a high with the victory and emphatically declare that they have taken back their country. The control of the House of Representatives bestows Democrats with power over 'congressional committees that can draw up legislation, investigate the federal government and budgetary oversight.'
The election results might have stunned the Republicans but not the citizens as it has come out as a referendum in true sense on Bush and Iraq policy. How far will the outcome of these elections will affect US and the world a quite a debatable issue, especially when the super power's position is on stake since long owing to the unethical 'war on terrorism'. Bush's Presidency is over and now we hope for positive changes in America's foreign policy. The political landscape of US has changed completely - for good or for worse, only time will tell.
