Dazzling democracy
Algiers, Amman, Beirut, Cairo, Damascus, Khartoum, Sana, Tripoli, Tunis…….
Do you recognize the mentioned names? I think you are. They are all the capital cities of countries scattered in African and Asian continent.

What are the common things in the mentioned cities?
State capital? Places of historic importance? Tourist spots?
Yes, all are true. But all these names have come into the limelight recently because of a different reason.
The reason is rational. People of all these places are fighting for democracy. They are fighting for a change and the abolition of a long lasting absolute autocracy.
Too much power for an endless time leads to corruption, nepotism and dictatorship, an old saying but true indeed. Millions of pages (read history) are the witness of above.
Hitler is hated; Stalin and Saddam with a stigma, Mubarak and Muammar are malign.
“Democracy is a form of government in which all citizens have an equal say in the decisions that affect their lives. Ideally, this includes equal (and more or less direct) participation in the proposal, development and passage of legislation into law. It can also encompass social, economic and cultural conditions that enable the free and equal practice of political self-determination”.
Moreover the definition is absolute pro people, precisely the people are the ultimatum. They select, they elect, and they eradicate. No body is there in between.
If we go though the pages of history, starting from the Middle Ages to the 21st century, the common finding is the victory of democracy. Democracy guarantees the right to change; restore and even uproot with a silent exercise namely “vote”.
It can be of different form like representative, parliamentary, liberal or constitutional but the goal being same, the restoration of people’s right.
The morale is being democratic, otherwise you will perish.
