Crushing Defeat Disillusions Pakistan
Lofty hopes of Pakistan’s lifting the Cricket World Cup were shaken out of illusion Tuesday night (March 08, 2011) as New Zealand roughed up the Pakistani team in a group match. The Kiwis beat Pakistan by a crushing 110 runs as they ousted Pakistan’s batting line at a total of 192 in 41.4 overs.

Batting first, New Zealand had lost its first four wicket s at the total score of 163 runs, making things seem like poised against the Kiwis. But that was that, as Ross Taylor assumed total control of the game. It was his 27th birthday and he blasted the Pakistani bowling squad with all the vigor and smartness of youth. Hitting 131 off 124 balls, Taylor made the day for his team and for fans of hard-hitting batting. Supported by an equally confident Jacob Oram, who scored a quick 85, Taylor cruised his team to a final score of 302 runs for 7 wickets.
On their turn, Pakistan started meekly, losing five wickets for an incredibly poor score of 45. Razzaq and Umar Akmal tried to rescue their team from a humiliating loss, but it was too late, and the Kiwi bowlers were raging as their team’s batting talent. The Pakistani inning was put to a decisive end in
Media and analysts, particularly in Pakistan, are currently slamming Pakistan’s poor show in the game. Former cricket captain Amir Sohail criticized the team in his commentary titled Sheer humiliation for the men in Green!. Cricket fans in Pakistan also vented their anger out on wicket keeper Kamran Akmal for his poor performance, through social networking websites. ESPN Cricket Info called him “Calamity Kamran”, and the rage continues. For the Kiwis, however, it is time to celebrate!
