Crucil day for the Capital

The 15th general election enters the penultimate round, with polling in 8 states, one UT (Delhi), with 85 seats, 9.5 crores voters and 1, 315 candidates.

For Delhi today is the polling day and its crucial for both the BJP and the Congress parties. It has 7 seats, 1.1 crores voters and 160 candidates out of which 72 are independents. On the eve of the polling day the Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said she was confident that Congress would sweep Delhi. She further added that a performing government, committed to development, is the message to the voters.

In 2004 Lok Sabha election, the Congress had won six seats out of seven. But this time it will be difficult to ascertain that which parties will win more seats. The fate of 160 candidates will be decided by the voters today.

There was not much of commotion before the election in this time. Last year for the state Assembly election people were talking whom to vote. Interestingly, this time around there has not been much of hue and cry before the election albeit it is more important than any other elections.

"Vote for a better Delhi, Dil se" was the sentence I came across when I read through the newspaper in the morning. I was not at all surprised to see the false promise to woo the voters. Hope people will say 'Vote ki liye kuch bhi karega' and come out to vote as the weather is also conducive. I am sure Delhiits will not make mistake of electing worthless candidates. Let not the campaign Vote for a better Delhi, Dil se, is vain.
