Conservatism Opportunism & the TSA
Right-wing opportunists are feigning an apoplectic temper over the TSA's new pat-down security screening. Admittedly the TSA's measure is intrusive and an offense to liberty. Why are government bureaucrats even in charge of airport security instead of the airlines in the first place?

But the right-wing's opposition is bogus because if President Bush ordered such measures they would roundly defend them as a necessary measure against terrorism and attack opponents as a bunch of civil liberty pansy appeasers. This is simply an opportunistic appeal to popular sentiment (which, incidentally, is supportive of the TSA) in another shameless attack against Obama.
Furthermore their opposition, even leaving the political nature of it, is baseless considering that it is not rooted in any appreciation for individual rights. These right-wing hacks have supporting far more intrusive state incursions into our privacy and rights. Such as warrant-less wiretapping, holding Americans without detention infinitely and even assassinating Americans without due process.
And these right-wingers do not recognize even the merit of having a debate about the consequences and costs of our interventionist foreign policy which has created the terrorism problem for America in the 21st century. Terrorism is the cost of empire, but these people support an empire.
And, finally, their alternative to the pat-downs is not anything that respects individual rights but a far more offensive system which would racially profile Arabs and Muslims and deny them their rights and subject them to undue and unAmerican humiliation.
So this is all bogus outrage!
