Congress party’s recent decision to decontrol fuel prices and subsequent rise in product of petroleum products. There are allegation that this is an attempt to help some big corporate oil companies like RIL and some other oil companies. By decontrolling fuel and mounting inflation, a new debate has begun and exposes the corruption and anti-poor policies of the UPA government.
India’s mother of all corruption is in petroleum sector due to high rates and taxes of petroleum products which runs into lakhs of crores and have wider reach even at international level. India’s 80% of the import bill are for crude oil and other petro products.
Govt. of India levying maximum levy on petro products for different ways for different reasons may be highest in the world and every district and every state have different rate for petrol, diesel and other petro products. This is the prime reason for huge corruption. Most of the people in power know the facts and even High Court, Supreme Court and CBI fail to take up and deal this issue firmly. One of the fascinating fact is no activist, intellectuals, advocates dare to take up this issue. Some small people attempted to take up this issue but failed miserably due to the clout and power of this oil mafia.
The taxes on petroleum comprises about 62% and variation of taxes in different state and district due to octroi, sales tax and other taxes.
UPA is spending crores of rupees on advertisement for creating awareness and justifying fuel hike and decontrolling the fuel prices.
It is evident how the UPA faking and misrepresenting people by showing comparative chart of prices of petro products in neighbouring countries. What don’t they put a comparative prices against US Dollar, Euro and other countries prices. The ‘value of currency’ in poor neighbouring countries like Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka is much lower than Indian currency. If you convert their currency to Indian Currency, you can better understand that Indian prices are higher than neighbouring countries. Other issue of taxes. The taxes in neighbouring countries are much lower than India and multiple taxes on same product making the pushing the prices higher and consumer have to suffer.
India should open up the door for other multinational companies including Chinese companies on consumer point of view. Protectionist policy of the govt. and fake patriotism should not create a stumbling block in opening up our oil and energy sector to others making our consumer value for money and competitive environment. UPAs selective approach in decontrolling for the benefit of some corporate oil companies going to the matter more worse and the people of India suffer.
We do not understand the logic of giving subsidy to the poor by taking more than 62% by way of taxes and giving just overall 5% subsidy to kerosene, LPG and other products. Instead what we require uniformity in taxes across India and GST should be implemented immediately on petroleum products and minimum taxes should be applicable to petroleum products.
In Oil sector, we are witnessing both private monopoly and public sector monopoly and there is no room for competition. Like Telecom, Oil sector also need to open up for domestic and international players.
Congress party making election drama in the name of 'aamadmi' and garnering support of large masses. But in reality they are creating more poorer people in India and to please the west and USA. Why should we the people of India suffer at the hands of Congress party and corporate vested interests?
If I take a statement of Pranab Mukherjee, it is our mistake not to make our protest very strongly on the street. This is the direct challenge to 1.3 billion Indian. Unless and until we did not challenge the power and authority, such thing continue to face. It is the time of expose the Congress and UPA as a whole. We are going to the Corporate and State slave. Raise your concern and voice. It is not the time of pretty sitting.
A statutory warning : "Beware of Congress Party & UPA, it is injurious to people's health". Prepare for getting deadly shock from UPA now through Direct Tax Code. Now it is worth in asking whether we need Swadeshi or Videshi as Congress President while people of India getting poorer and enslaved by corporate and state. If Mahatma Gandhi was reborn, he might have taken different form of protest to unseat the UPA. In Heaven he might have crying while seeing the present anti-people government.
