What has happened to the sense and sensibilities of the present government? Isn’t it aware of the fact that this is not just and proper way of achieving the avowed aim of creating sex awareness? I am talking about silly ‘Condom Bindaas Bol ’advertisements aired on Doordarshan and Vividh Bharati . These advertisements are turning into source of distraction instead of disseminating sex education or, for that matter, giving the impression that condom is not a strange object. Not only are they in poor taste but also opening nasty can of worms. These advertisements are raising the bogey of cheap sex-oriented views, which is making high-risk groups deviate away from the actual purport of the advertisements .I am at my wit’s end how “Condom Bindaas Bol’ ring tone is going to serve the real purpose ? I don’t know how many of us are going to use this ringtone?

These types of advertisements create a sense of awkwardness among the listeners /viewers as not only high-risk groups but even the family members and small children are watching /listening TVs and Radios. I am not against use of these mediums in extending sex-education to the real target. But not in this outrageously titillating manner. Are we trying to prevent them from unwanted sexual encounters or trying people to have frequent sex with condom in proper place?
I am not sure whether government is aware of its actual priorities? The only plausible conclusion one can draw from government’s crooked way of handling volatile situation is that it’s really not interested in spreading awareness .It’s merely interested in cheap advertisements , which are being lampooned and ridiculed .These advertisements sums up the limited agendas .
It’s time for the government to wake up and use these popular mediums in a more creative and constructive way .Not only the message is important but how it should be highlighted is equally important. Let not the message get lost in an attempt to pepper it with masala elements of C-grade movies.
