Less than 60 days from now India will host Commonwealth games. After Asiad 82, it will be a mega Sports Event to showcase our nation’s progress. But even before start of the event, the officials responsible for smooth conduct of the games are trapped in quagmire of corruption. The preparations for the games are far from completion.
Deadline after deadline for various projects have raised doubts about competence and sincerity of those associated with them. Slow pace of work, shoddy construction, and lack of coordination amongst various agencies involved in the job have resulted in big mess. The CVC report has raised a storm by pointing towards financial irregularities, poor quality of work and fake certificates. Leaking ceilings, peeling off paints, undone exteriors speak volumes about lackadaisical approach to the World Sports Event to be held in our country. Taxpayers’ money is going in the pockets of the organizers and those who run the affairs of the country are mute spectators. Who is bothered about nation’s pride or should I say reputation? Is corruption a part of our DNA?
The whole city is dug up. No road, no lane is spared. To put it in a lyrical form:
‘Idhar Bhee khuda(God) hai, udhar bhee khuda hai
Uppar bhee khuda hai , neeche bhee khuda hai
Jidhar bhee dekho , khuda he khuda hai
Jidhar nahi khuda udhar bhee khod(dig up) dainge.
From ‘krishi Pradhan Desh’ our country has become ‘khudai Pradhan Desh’. Not only in the Capital of the country, ‘khudai’ is done all over the country. MCD, PWD, JAL Board, Electricity Deppt, Telecommunication Deppt, Sewerage Deppt Road Building Contactors and other Private Agencies have no coordination amongst themselves ; they dig up anywhere and everywhere at their sweet will and either cover the ‘gaddas’ with loose earth or leave them at the mercy of rain god to fill it with water.
No one is responsible for the accidents due to ‘gaddas’. It is the need of the hour to form a ‘National Gadda Bharo Squad ’headed by a Cabinet rank Minister, of Course, one with proven honesty and integrity .The work of ‘gadda Bharo’ has to be undertaken urgently and in the right earnest before onset of the Commonwealth games to salvage some prestige of the nation.
