Clashes at Al-Arish Port
An Egyptian decision to have 45 vehicles from the Gaza aid convoy pass through Israel instead of Rafah crossing, resulted in clashes between the pro-Palestinian activists and the Egyptian police. Activists broke down a gate at Al Arish port, blocked two of its entrances, and clashed with the police.

The convoy’s leader George Galloway, and a delegation of Turkish officials started talks with Egyptian officials in a trial to change their decision about the vehicles in concern, but were unsuccessful at their mission.
Kevin Ovenden, the Viva Palestina Convoy Leader, sent a message to the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) saying:
"To all friends of Palestine: Our situation is now at a crisis point! Riot has broken out in the port of Al- Arish.whileThis late afternoon we were negotiating with a senior official from Cairo who left negotiations some two hours ago and did not return. Our negotiations with the official was regarding taking our aid vehicles into Gaza. He left two hours ago and did not come back. Egyptian authorities called over 2,000 riot police who then moved towards our camp at the port.”-Indymedia Ireland,
“Cairo accused the convoy organisers of trying to embarrass Egypt”- AFP…
How I see this? When someone leaves the table of negotiations and sends 2,000 riot police instead, then I would rather have it called “Self embarrassment”.
The picture seems to be getting clearer now, as everything that Egypt is doing, and has done ever since the convoy reached Al Aqaba port, sends a clear message about the Egyptian attitude towards helping the people of Gaza survive their ordeal.
