Cheney in Saudi Arabia. But Why?
Former vice-president Dick Cheney is in Saudi Arabia today. This is odd. Cheney no longer holds a position of power and because he is such a vulgar and militant right-wing Demagogue he cannot exercise any influence, unlike past vice-presidents, because his attacks against the Obama administration precludes him for ever advising the administration on anything. Unless they want to hear about the Dark Side. So why would he be in Saudi Arabia?

Saudi Arabia cannot benefit in anyway it appears, because Cheney can neither deliver messages on its behalf nor lobby the administration. Nonetheless, Cheney received the honors of a state visit. He met with the Saudi king and both the king's advisor and the deputy chairman of the National Guard were present, along with the Saudi ambassador to the United States.
So this was not a tourist trip for Cheney. It was as if Cheney was there for serious business. But what? The Saudi press has offered nothing of substance on the purpose of the visit or the content of the meeting. The only thing the Saudi press is reporting is that Cheney is visiting and who attended. But that's it.
Which only raises suspicion. Here's a guess: Both the Saudi royals and Dick Cheney oppose Iranian nukes. So the meeting probably dealt with Iran. But that still leaves the question: what would the Saudis gain from delivering their concerns to Cheney?
Cheney cannot lobby President Obama. But he can - as he has and continues to do - raise concern in the media and attack Obama in speeches presented to far-right so-called 'think tanks'. That is what Cheney has been doing in attacks against Obama's policy on, say, detention of alleged terrorists.
So the Saudis want Cheney to do their bid in attacking Obama for being allegedly too soft on Iran and to claim that Arab leaders, that's what they're called, themselves are worried about Iran and the administration's lack of resolute action and willingness to accept Iranian nukes as inevitable. The Saudis want Cheney to attack Obama in a way they cannot, to raise the far-right's call for an attack against Iran, and then they hope this will pressure Iran to take military action or, at least, acquiesce to Israeli bombings.
Those nefarious due.
