CBSE schools join fight against dengue
Even as the fatal dengue disease is spreading its tentacles further in the city, several CBSE-affiliated schools in Mumbai have started awareness campaigns to create awareness about the dos and don'ts of the deadly disease.

After the outbreak of malaria which claimed more than 50 lives, dengue is tightening its grip on Mumbai which is witnessing unusually high amount of rains this year. Keeping the number of dengue rise in the city, the CBSE board has instructed its schools to take precautionary measures. The board has put up a web advisory asking schools to asses students on their participation in spreading awareness and participating in its anti-vector campaign.
Aiming o increase student participation, the board wants schools to encourage them to undertake projects on dengue or mosquito control and organise debate and quizzes around the issue. Each student has been asked to identify five breeding grounds for mosquitoes in the school premises, home and public places like water coolers, plastic cups, uncovered water tanks, and flower pots.
Several CBSE schools have assigned groups of students to look after various breeding sites and keep them clean. Besides, students are regularly spraying the school gardens and the campus. Under this anti-dengue campaign,
schools have also been instructed to earmark one period every week for dengue awareness and appoint nodal teachers to organise various activities.
