Burning of Koran in Florida Condemned by Pakistan
Pakistan has strongly condemned the act of burning the Holy Koran in a local church in Gainesville, Florida, on Sunday (March 21, 2011). At the same time, the religious group Jamaat-ud-Dawah has announced a bounty of 100 million rupees (over 1 million dollars) on the head of the pastor who supervised the sacrilegious act.

Pastor Jones oversaw the burning of Koran on Sunday, following a mock trial in a local church in which he declared the Koran as a book guilty of crime against humanity, entirely forgetting that his act is irrational, ridiculous, and condemnable, meant to spread hatred and intolerance in a multi-ethnic society.
Condemnation of the act of Koran burning came on all official levels in Pakistan and outside it. In his presidential address yesterday, President Asif Ali Zardari denounced the pastor Terry Jones’ act as “barbaric”. He urged the parliament to adopt a resolution against the burning of Koran to be presented to the UN. In New York, Ambassador Abdullah Hussain Haroon wrote a letter to the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on behalf of Pakistan, condemning the offensive and provocative act of Pastor Jones.
The US Embassy in Islamabad has already issued a statement of condemnation of Terry Jones’ act, saying that it does not reflect the general sentiment of the average American.
Meanwhile, the religious group Jamaat-ud-Dawah has announced a prize of 100 million rupees for anyone who kills Terry Jones over the sacrilegious offensive of burning a copy of the Koran out of malice. The announcement is said to have been made by leader Amir Hamza, a senior leader of the group, during a meeting in Lahore today (March 23, 2011).
