Bullet-Riddled Bodies of 8 Foreign and 2 Afghan Aid Workers Found in Peaceful Badakhshan
The Northern and North Eastern provinces of Afghanistan have been labelled safe zones for the last nine years and they have been relatively peaceful with just a few minor incidents in the last nine years. However, today's news reveals that no place in Afghanistan is now safe as Media reports of 10 aid workers killed in the relatively peaceful North Eastern Province of Badakhshan bordering Tajikistan, China and Pakistan pour in.

The ten dead bodies found are eight foreigners and two Afghans. They have been found shot dead next to abandoned, bullet-riddled vehicles. They are believed to be six Americans, one Briton, a German and two Afghans, who worked for an international charity, International Assistance Mission (IAM),providing eye care and medical help.
Their vehicles were discovered a day after contact was lost with them.
Where local police believes robbery might have been the motive, the Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack.
A spokesman for the charity, the International Assistance Mission (IAM), said he was still awaiting formal identification of the victims, but that their families had been informed.
The bodies are expected to be returned to Kabul over the weekend.
