Britain Rebuffs Obama On Palestinian Statehood
It dawned on me yet again just how outside the international community the United States is when it comes to Palestinian rights. Ironic considering how much Obama is elsewhere concerned with reaching consensus with the "IC" and dovetailing American policy often with much of the world, especially Europe.

But when it comes to Israel, the United States remains the "Ugly Americans". Choosing, for reasons of domestic political expediency, to back Israel to the hill no matter how intransigent Occupied Jerusalem it. Take the recent US veto at the UN Security Council of a simple resolution condemning, not even at the risk of sanctions, but merely condemning Israel's illegal settlement activity. It was Washington, after all, that made settlements the sticking point when Obama and Clinton for months insisted on an settlement "freeze" as a first step toward peace negotiations and Obama let it be known that he was greatly irritated about Israel's far-right government and its unwillingness to heed his request. So the resolution was a simple reiteration of declared American foreign policy. But the US still vetoed it. Why? Because Washington believes in only coddling Israel toward peace and then asks amused when the Israelis tell them to "fuck off", of course they would since Israel knows it can tell the world's sole superpower where to get off, face no consequences and still pocket a cool $3billion and words of unadulterated love. Washington never believes in bringing leverage to bear and without it Israel will not budge.
In vetoing a resolution sponsored by over 100 UN members and supported by 14 of the 15 (15 is America, of course) of Security Council members, the United States stood alone with a far-right Israeli government. The United States and Israel were the only two nations in a chamber of roughly 180 members to oppose the resolution, even the Harper government in Canada did not object. And, to belabor, the resolution was stated American policy and Washington still vetoed it.
Now Obama is going around Europe trying to get European leaders to oppose a Palestinian statehood declaration at the UN General Assembly later this September. In his first lobbying effort on behalf of an Israeli leader, Netanyahu, who recently dissed Obama in a public lecture in the Oval Office, Obama spoke with conservative British prime minister David Cameron and told him to oppose the Palestinian effort. Cameron rebuffed Obama's plea. Refusing to say the United Kingdom would oppose it.
As they say in Latin, nota bene: a left-wing US president is lobbying a right-wing British prime minister to oppose the liberal cause of Palestinian rights. The former consistently shuns the Palestinians and bows in front of Israel, while the latter has publicly scolded Israel, condemned its blockade on Gaza and hinted at British support for the statehood declaration, and he's a Troy!
That tells you and says it all. Even the right-wing in Europe is pro-Palestinian, while American liberalism is still fixated by Zionism and Democratic politicians are akin to Republicans, and sometimes trump them, in their fanatical support for Israeli wars and occupation and hatred for the Palestinians, the bastards!
That shows America's isolation. In the end, the United States will be on the wrong side of history.
