Brazil's President Speak Truth on Mideast
Brazil's outgoing president Lulu may be the most popular world leader on the stage. A former union organizer and dissident of the military regime with a fourth-grade education, Lulu represents the new ambitious Brazil: a nation no longer regulated to being a soccer and beach sideshow, but a rising power - one the GoldmanSachs' BRIC nations - with a fast-growing economy, enviable abundant natural resources, and lively culture.

Lulu is the image of the new Brazil: cool and confident. Although Brazil still is only beginning to make its mark felt around the world, Lulu has taken some efforts to turn Brazil into a diplomatic heavyweight. One of the region's Lulu has focused on is the Middle East.
Along with Turkey, the Brazilian government negotiated a nuclear deal with Iran (rejected by Washington). Brazil's biggest influence though will likely be Palestine.
Recently the nation recognized a Palestinian state within 1967 borders and promoted Argentina to do likewise and Uruguay to announce that it will in 2011.
Such a move raises the international profile of the Palestinians and furthers puts Israel on the defense for its intransigent stand and anti-peace policies.
And Lulu recently hit the make on its head demonstrating his skillful analysis:
"Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on Monday that there will be no peace in the Middle East while the United States acts as a mediator. "I am convinced that there will be no peace in the Middle East as long as the United States is the tutor of peace there," he said."
Lulu is right. One cannot be an honest broker if one is constantly saying how they support one side and not only support, but military fund, provide diplomatic shield and incessantly sing their praises as part of a "special relationship". There's an Arab line of poetry that says: "The enmity is with you, and yet you want to be the arbiter."
Lulu recognizes the fallacy of this: the United States cannot bring peace as long as its heavily biased in favor of Israel and indifferent to the plight and concerns of the Palestinians.
If only the American president were as wise.
