It is not surprising Israel would claim cultural aspects that do not belong to it since they also claim land that does not belong to it (along with pretending that Arab food such as Hummus, Couscous, Shawarmas, ect... are also distinctly Israeli). We may live to see the day that Israeli will claim the Palestinian Kufiyah as ‘Israeli’.
Hummus is Arab, but Israelis still love it. And the best Hummus places in Israel are owned by Palestinians. Although Israelis would concede that Hummus is Arab, two Israelis firms have nearly monopolized the American Hummus market.
This has irritated the Arabs and supporters of the Palestinians who claim that Israel is marketing Hummus as Israeli and thus robbing Arabs of their cultural heritage.
Israel is built on the disposition and continued occupation and murder of Arabs; to say nothing of the vilification of Arabs by Israel and Zionists. It has stolen Arab lands and seeks to steal Arab culture as well. This nation, more than any, does not have the right to profit from Arab culture.
And it is not just Hummus that Israel steals and falsely markets as its own. Israel markets falafel and other Arab foods as "Israeli".
Such theft is made even more egregious considering that Israel grows its products on stolen land.
And these Israeli firms also support Israeli occupiers, to boot!

Sabra and Tribe Hummus. Sabra and Tribe products directly subsidize Israeli human rights abuses through their support of the Israeli Defense Forces and occupation infrastructure of the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza.
Sabra and Tribe are companies intricately tied to subsidizing the Israeli government’s abusive policies against Palestinians. Both companies are subsidiaries of large Israeli corporations: Sabra is owned by the Strauss Group and PepsiCo, and Tribe is owned by Osem. Both the Strauss Group and Osem have ties to the Israeli government and military. The Strauss Group provides political support and food to Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), in particular to the Golani Brigade that is responsible for numerous human rights abuses according to various UN reports. Tribe’s owner, Osem, is linked to the Jewish National Fund (JNF), which contributes to building settlement infrastructure in the West Bank and confiscates land to build from Bedouin villages to make Jewish-only neighborhoods in the Negev desert.
Boycott Israel in toto, but especially those Israeli firms which subsidize Israeli occupation and killing and boost about it. Buy real Arab-made Hummus not the shitty Zionist imitation by a bunch of usurpers and interlopers seeking to appropriate another culture and put their stamp on it.
Sabra is now trying to hide its crimes:
"The Strauss Group, the Israeli company that co-owns the popular Sabra Hummus brand, has removed all references to its support of the Israeli military from the English-language portion its website."
The fact that they have removed such information is clear that Israeli firms are starting to recognize the consequences of BDS and trying to now hide their Israeliness and occupation-support. Try as they might, they'll have no cover for their crimes.
Memo to Israelis: Get your own land and your own culture! If you hate Arabs so much, then stop eating our foods! After your crimes, the Arabs do not want to have a cultural exchange with you and stop pretending that Hummus is some Israeli delicacy (your Zionist delusions notwithstanding)!!!
