Investigators found the body of an Italian artist last seen in March hitchhiking in a wedding gown and arrested a man suspected of murdering her, officials said Saturday.

Police found the nude body of 33-year-old Giuseppina Pasqualino di Marineo in bushes in a forested area, the governor’s office for the northwestern city of Gebze said. Private news agency Dogan reported di Marineo had been strangled with a rope.

The suspect was arrested after police determined he used di Marineo’s mobile phone after her March 31 disappearance, the governor’s office said.

Authorities said the suspect has not been charged and it was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.

The artist, also known as Pippa Bacca, had been hitchhiking with a friend from her hometown of Milan to Israel in a white wedding dress for peace. The two separated near Istanbul, and she was last seen in Gebze.

Police arrested the suspect after determining he had used di Marineo’s mobile phone after her disappearance, the state-run Anatolia news agency reported.
