Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh is currently tense as there are fears of widespread violence.
The real story
The whole incident started on November 30th, 2009 when some antisocial elements eve teased the girl students and their teacher in Laxmi Vihar, Bulandshahr. However, the situation took an ugly shape as the workers of the BJP leader Bhawtosh, who lives in the vicinity, thrashed the molesters allegedly belonging to the ruling BSP MLA, Haji Alim, who is infamous as a gangster turned politician in the region.
The situation flared up and resulted in firing between two rival groups that injured three. The firing took place, as the BJP protesters allege, in the presence of SSP, SP city and CO who watched the whole drama as dumb spectators. Haji Alim supporters started the firing first on the house of the BJP leader. And to the surprise of the all, police arrested the BJP workers to divert the issue since Haji Alim belongs to the ruling party and police is under tremendous pressure.
What’s up next?
The whole incident is heating up with each passing day and last night, a few unknown goons stabbed an ABVP worker. But again, to the surprise of all, the person who reported about the stabbing was arrested. There are fears of communal violence as the anniversary of the Babri Mosque demolition is round the corner i.e. on 6th of December, 2009. Also, the BJP leader Varun Gandi will be visiting the region on 9th of December.
As per local citizens, since Haji Alim came into power such incidents have become a norm in the whole region. Earlier this year, Haji Alim and his brother Haji Yunus were issued warrants in a case of rape and child labour at a circus.
The media houses, including newspapers, are trying to paint a different political picture altogether over here. However, the fact is it’s just an attempt to suppress the molestation case. And the BVP leaders are arrested just to divert the issue. The police is not taking any action and the real culprits are still at large.
