Belgian Teacher Admits To Killing 3 People, But There Might Be More
You never know what lurks behind a quiet, unassuming demeanour. Or what darkness lives within the soul of your next door neighbour. One soon-to-be-married young couple had no idea that Ronald Janssen, 38, father of 2 girls and a teacher who taught technical drawing, would some day shatter their dreams of marrying by murdering them. 18-year-old Shana Appeltans and 22-year-old Kevin Paulus were found shot dead on New Year's Day. Their car had been torched. Janssen was arrested after he confessed to the 2 murders. But what shocked the small community where he lives was his latest confession, this past Monday, that this wasn't the first time he had killed.

Annick Van Uytsel, 18, went missing after a party in 2007. Janssen had attended the same party, and Annick's bicycle was found close to an old apartment of Janssen's. She was eventually found dead.
Her body was later found dumped in a local canal, wrapped in a plastic sheet and weighted down with stones. She had been beaten to death.
Although police suspected Janssen might be involved in the murder of Annick, they had no proof. Apparently he meticulously erased any evidence that might point to him as the killer, and so it was dubbed by the media as
"..the perfect crime - so perfect that nobody can believe that it was his first one."
This latest confession has led both the media and the police to speculate that he might have been involved in the murders of 3 other young women, dating back to 1991, and possibly 15 other raped and murdered young women.
Prosecutors across Belgium have now reopened the files for two unsolved abduction murders, of Ingrid Caeckaert, 27 stabbed in 1991 and Carola Titze, 16, murdered in 1996.Detectives have also reopened an investigation into the 2006 disappearance, and suspected murder, of Tamara Morris, 27.
The whole grisly case is being compared to another Belgian serial murderer Marc Dutroux who abducted, sexually abused and tortured 6 young girls ranging from 8 to 19. He murdered 4 of them. And though he was captured in 1996, it wasn't until 2004 that his case actually went to trial.
Serial killers are often people you would least suspect of being so evil, but I suppose that's how they often lure their victims, by seeming harmless.
