The Indian bride looks incomplete without a beautiful red veil on her head. What lays in that simple piece of cloth that changes the way she looks? The face starts glowing when a golden- embroidered dupatta sparkles around it. Kids often love to have such beautiful dupatta over their head. It is perhaps the most desired object that makes little girls dream about their marriage. Of course its beauty attracts all alike.
But in other countries also the system of veil is present for the brides. The western brides have a white net cloth over the head. Japanese kimono, the bridal wear also includes a white covering on the head.
Thus I find several meaning attached to a bridal veil.
• To add beauty and charm
• To add shyness to the face
• To keep the bride away from evil spirits, evil intentions.
• To make the face look more special, different
• Respect to God and elders at the time of marriage (covering the head is practiced by many at the time of worship)
• To make her look seductive before the groom
Whatever it is, it’s just a wonderful thing for that special person!
