Bangkok International Film Festival honours Hema Malini
This year the Bangkok International Film festival focused on Asian cinema and payed tribute to Hema Malini, crowing her as Asian legend, who apparently is very popular among Thais.

While dozens of new award-winning flicks were showcased at this year's festival, 13 classic masterpieces by Indian superstar Hema Malini and late Spanish director Luis Bunuel (1900-1983) were the main attractions.
The festival, organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, presented her four films, including "Lal Patthar" (1971), "Sholay" (1975), "Dillagi" (1978) and her recent "Baghban" (2003).
The embodiment of elegance Hema Malini thinks the sari is not being accorded the respect it deserves at international events.
She says:
I see it being worn in strange ways at these events where our representatives are being watched by millions. The pallu is awry and the girls end up looking undignified. Just because you want to show off your curves it doesn't mean you can wear the sari like that.
Incidentally, there was a story in Hema's heydays about how she never repeated her saris for, according to her it is tougher for the stars to repeat the sari since the media catches the repetition and highlights it.
Hema left for her career's first retrospective at the Bangkok International Film Festival, accompanied by her younger daughter Ahana. Nobody else from the Indian film industry except Rakeysh Mehra joined her in Bangkok.
