Attacks against the indigenous people in Bolivia
Racism and xenophobia against indigenous peoples are increasing everyday in some cities in Bolivia. In Santa Cruz, yesterday early morning the offices of one of the most important indigenous organizations was attacked. According to the information provided by the Vice president of Cidob, the indigenous federation that groups 34 indigenous peoples in Bolivia, Pedro Nuni, groups of people entered the main office, destroyed everything they found there, and assaulted women and children. Now, leaders of this organization are clandestine because their lives were menaced.

Later, groups of vandals went to other part of Santa Cruz, named Plan 3000. Plan 3000 is mainly inhabited by migrants from indigenous origin. Most of them work as sellers and the market is important to have an income. There, vandals wanted to attack and burn the local market called Rotonda. Neighbours reacted quickly defending the market and their houses too.
Situation got worse in Pando, a city near the Brazilian border. In the town Tres Cañadas, Porvenir, Pando, a group of peasants were surprised by groups of young men that work for local authorities. According to Nancy Texeira, presidential representative in Pando, “peasants were attacked by armed people” and as a result of that, about 6 peasants were killed. This morning, a neighbor of Porvenir informed via phone that, yesterday, peasants men and women were insulted and hit. Some peasants had to escape to the forest because armed motorcyclists continued in the town during the night. It was also said that there are injured peasants in the forest.
Abraham Cuellar, senator of Pando, informed that there could be more dead people in Cobija, Pando which would increase to 14. Today, there are no trading activities because yesterday small businesses owned mainly by indigenous migrants were looted.
Today at 18:30 is supossed to be a meeting between the President and the local autority of Tarija, other city where there were conflicts too. Different sectors of citizens are asking for a solution to these conflicts but nobody knows what else may happen.
