At least a dozen people are hurt after vehicles veered onto sidewalks in two accidents in bustling Manhattan neighborhoods.
Authorities say a 60-year-old driver was pulling out of a Chinatown parking spot Friday when he accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brakes. His car mounted the curb and hit people sitting on a bench and walking on the sidewalk.
Two victims are hospitalized in serious but stable condition. Five others were treated for less serious injuries. The driver isn’t expected to face criminal charges.
Police say another vehicle hit five or six people and a building later Friday in the Garment District. They say the crash inflicted minor injuries.
Police are interviewing the driver.
