At 18, Tooro's King Oyo Gets a Kingdom And A Mercedes
King Oyo, whose ascent to the Toro throne after the death of his father at the age of 3 years, has finally become of age to lead and decide for his kingdom with help from regents.

The festivities celebrating his 18th birthday and the final handover of the tools of leadership have been going on until yesterday in Fort Portal. During the thanksgiving prayers, the retired Bishop Eustace Kamanyire in his sermon quoted saying “We thank God for making you grow from a minor to a mature person. The people who you lead are very important because your Majesty you came from them.”
The young king comes in at a time that Uganda is preparing itself for the next presidential elections to take place in February 2011. Where he has been handled with gloves before, he will not receive the same treatment especially from the cruel media. The media will seek his opinion on the right candidate, systems of government: regional tier versus federal system, and the most recent discovery of oil in his kingdom.
Interestingly, King Oyo has enjoyed the guardianship of both Buganda Kingdom's Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi and President Museveni for over 15 years. The current stand-off between President Museveni and the Kabaka is probably the first test King Oyo is undergoing to determine if he has what it takes to be King. He will have to decide on whom to believe in and trust.
With President Museveni badly in need of votes to strengthen his stay in power, he must be seen to be close to King Oyo. On the other hand, Kabaka Mutebi and his government are strongly advocating for a federal system of government among other demands from the government. With a federal system of government, each region would be responsible for the development and direct supervision of the mineral resources within their area. King Oyo will ultimately have to make his stand clearly known and history will judge right or wrong with whatever decision he makes henceforth.
