Are men more prone to recession effects than women?

Recession has an overall effect and everybody is affected badly in some ways or the other. However, there is one demographic that seems to have been hit less hard by job losses overall: women. Even when it’s true that women unemployment has gone up by 1.6%, but it's far too less to touch male unemployment rate that shot up by 3%, heralding the onset of a so-called “mancession”. The figures show the biggest gap in jobless rates between men and women for more than five decades. More job losses for men has led to redefining or say reversing the gender roles and challenging men's status as family breadwinners.
