Wacky slogans, stinking clothes, uncovered guitar with at least an inch of dust, a bed without a bed spread, table full of crap, books spread across the floor, the cover of yesterday’s leftover food besides the pillow, a clock which shows the right time only twice a day and a creature that last took bath probably a week ago!! Welcome to a boy’s living room!! Yes…I am indeed referring to the place that we live in!!
To sum it up…it’s a total mayhem!!Why are we like this?? Why the hell??!! Is there any divine relationship between us and chaos?? Why are we so accustomed to being dirty??!! Can we ever become clean??!! Or sophistication is something that will always elude us??
A boy who’s really clean is as big a scarcity as the tigers in our country! And yea…the count’s ever decreasing!! 99.999999% of us would have gone through a horrendous time when our moms yell at us ever so vigorously and we do nothing but to put up a sorry face and end up assuring her that the next time she enters the room, we would straighten out things and make it the tidiest place on earth!! And we pity our moms who take that for an answer every time!! Probably that’s something all moms are accustomed to!! Thank god for making her like that!!
I myself am no exception!! Neither are my friends! My mom always used to say that I belonged to Stone Age!! Such was the mess in my room… My friends’ rooms, especially the ones from the hostel are nothing short of a dungeon! Hostel is the only place on earth where spiders, cockroaches, lizards, and humans can live ever so happily and harmoniously!! It’s as if they care for each other!!
Out of the blue, we do sometimes realize that this is not the way things should have been and it was supposed to be organized! And we in fact straighten out things once every new moon! And we say to ourselves with all intent that we are gonna maintain this cleanliness forever! But sadly, in a boy’s dictionary, that forever isn’t anywhere close to the actual forever! Sometimes that forever lasts for an hour or maximum a week! Then…back to square one and we duly wait for next such realization! These realizations have kinda become routine for us and breaking it up is even more routine!!
Once, one of my aunts was supposed to come to my room and it was on a very short notice that she had decided to come down! The state that my room was in at that stage would have prompted her to stay out of it than to venture into woods!
And there I was…the very next moment…with a broomstick… with an extensive cleaning program!! Like the ones that I had never done before!! The process went on for an hour!! Only then I realized that I had eaten so many chocolates!! And had worked out in so many sheets!! I kinda felt happy!! And was also bemused calculating the amount of money that I had spent on chocolates!! And then I decided to cut down on chocolates!! Which I have succeeded in doing up to a level! I have quit eating the chocolate that I was so addicted to!! And I am saving a lot of money now ;-)
After this entire circus, my aunt called me up and told me that she had cancelled her visit! I don’t know whether I was sad or happy to hear that! But I was indeed happy to be in a room that for a change looked like a living room!! I mean a place where a natural human being can dwell!! the bed with a brand new bed spread, ultra clean toilet like the ones they show in the harpic ad, clothes all neatly placed in the cupboard, a happy song playing on the comp, guitar inside the cover after a long long time, no leftover food packets, and no stinking clothes or rotten fruits, whoa!! It was totally heavenly! I just fell in love with my room!! I never knew that I lived in a place which can be made to look something remotely close to this!
And I decided!! From this very moment, this is how my room should look like…no matter what! And guess what, the meaning of the word forever in my dictionary has changed!! Finally!! It’s been a month n a half now and my room’s still super clean!! I deserve a pat on my back, don’t I ??!! My mom did go through the shock of her life when she turned up all of a sudden and she couldn’t believe that her son had finally evolved from Stone Age!! She was really happy and I was over the moon to see her happy!!
AND I HOPE, THIS TIME AROUND, THAT FOREVER IS ACTUALLY AND REALLY FOREVER!!!
