Arab League of Dates
Who says that the Arab League is a feckless and meaningless organization that does nothing and holds no significance for the daily lives of Arabs?
I disagree with these pessimists. The Arab League is often on top of the pressing issues in Arab society. And what is more important than the Arab date.

The Arab League has announced that it will establish an Arab Council for Dates to promote, preserve and protect the immortal date.

Note the Tunisian flag. The brave Tunisian government is often at the front lines of defending Arab honor.
No I am sure that those negative-minded and 'comedians' out there will ridicule this new move by the League. After all, they will say, how can resources, effort and time be spent on an agricultural produce at a time when Palestinians remain brutally occupied and 1.5million of them are starving in Gaza, at a time when Iraq is still trying to rebuild, at a time when youth unemployment is at the highest level in the world and at a time when according to a new UN report 140million Arabs live in poverty.
But I say to these people: dates are an ancient staple for the Arabs. One of the rare crops that can actually grow in the desert they have been served by Arabs since antiquity. And during Ramadan they are often eaten with the breaking of the fasts. In other words: dates are important to Arab life and culinary heritage which is nothing less but a part of Arab culture.
And is the Arab League not dedicated to promoting Arab culture? Certainly that is an important, nay necessary, function which they attend to. I mean the Arab leaders who gather at annual League summits often like to demonstrate their love of dates by serving them to their Western masters. And these leaders are so nice they they often feed U.S. presidents by hand and then wipe their lips for them. They always ask them if they want seconds and will run to get it themselves if commanded. They are always eager to please and may sometimes offer to shine the shoes of their Western patrons - shining shoes is not Arab culture, but who's complaining ?, they are just trying to be nice.
For those out there who are tone deaf, this entire post is a sarcastic mockery of an awful organization that fails to tackle significant problems while amusing itself with trivial matters.
