Anwar Sadat the 'Kelb'

Egyptians - many of them anyway - are outraged by the naming of a dog "Anwar Sadat" - after the late president - in the Hollywood film "I Love You, Man." The dog is named Sadat after his resemblance to the fmr. president and not out of political admiration.

Egyptians are crying foul. The assigning of a president to that of a dog is deemed a national insult; an affront to Egypt's honor no less. No Egyptian president should ever be likened to a dog, many argue.

Many Egyptians view this insult in the context of Hollywood's constant maligning of Arabs in films - the most maligned people in the history of the industry.

Some are calling for the film to be censored. This is nearly all about Egypt's honor than about Sadat's. Sadat is little popularity among Arabs. They view himself as a victim of an inferiority complex toward the White Man. They may not like his peace with Israel. But it was his consistent effort to win Western approval that irritated Arabs and still does. Sadat would desperately smile for the Western reporter and once told his people that all events rest in the hands of America. It was such subservience to the West that lead many Arabs to refer to Sadat as, well, "kelb" (dog).

So most Arabs do not care for Sadat people it is a more in-house thing that we can make fun of whom but you people in Hollywood - who have always mocked us - do not have the right given you're history of insults.

But Egyptians should not worry. America's are so ignorant that most will never even get the reference.
