Anti-porn initiative ...

We cannot deny the fact that today's world is filled with porn and raising a kid safe is a big challenge for every parent. According to me, the best way to address the rise of Internet pornography is to raise public awareness about it. Moreover, we must name it as a public health issue by bringing together educators, health professionals, community activists, parents and anti-violence experts to create materials that educate the public rather than misguiding them.

There are various steps that we can take in order to help parents and guardians in raising children by inculcating the moral values and safeguarding them from pornography. One of the vital steps can be to develop certain browser extensions that will enable the parent/guardian to monitor the Internet activity of their kids. For example, the browser extensions can monitor and report the type of URLs browsed, set rules and even block the porn sites. The program can further trigger email alerts and warnings if the kids visit the webpage containing bad keywords. I hope and believe that we all know about these keywords that easily allow the kids to navigate to the porn sites.

Another step can be taken by the Internet Server Providers (ISPs). The ISPs need to install programs called as the filtering software. These programs block access to the web sites though the Internet that contains illegal images of children (as defined under the Anti-Child Pornography Act of 2009, Republic Act 9775). Further, the operators and business establishments need to take corrective measures by reporting the matter to the nearby police control office within 6-7 days. The duration of 6-7 days can be well utilized to monitor and confirm the illegal act.

We may acknowledge that there is nothing absolutely right or wrong in the society we live in. But at the same time we cannot overlook the fact that if the freedom of action (of any kind) is harming and/or allowing the abuse of others within the society, an appropriate action must be taken. On the similar lines, the entertainment industry also has a social responsibility to make their services child-friendly and must not only look for profits.

These days there are very easy to install filtering systems to overcome the problem of porn site visits. For example, one such filtering system is NetClean that is an effective invention from Sweden.

Yet another organization is the Preda Foundation. Preda organizes frequent campaigns to avoid and protect children from the anti-porn sites. The NetClean white box technology is gaining popularity and will enable the authorities to monitor and confirm the illegal act. Moreover, Preda is working closely with Teliasonera to help the victims of child exploitation.

Let us all come together and at least try to create a porn-free world for the children all around the world. Further, as a society, we all have a moral responsibility to protect the children and bring violators to justice.
