Another rhino dies in Orang National Park
The forest staff of Satsimalu camp of Orang National Park found carcass of a 35 years old male rhino at a place near Singveti camp inside the park on the morning of February 16. The carcass was intact with horn and bore no external injuries. Post mortem was done and the horn was cut off by forest staff for safe custody and deposition in government treasury. The animal died almost in the centre of the National Park. According to SK Daila,DFO,Orang National Park, the forest staff had sighted the same rhino grazing under their camp the previous day at 4 pm. The rhino was better known as "Kaankata" as some portion of its left ear was blown away by poachers bullets many years ago. Since then it had become ferocious and used to charge human beings at sight so much so that it even attacked the DFO's vehicle around three years ago.According to the DFO,the animal could have died due to old age.
